What Is Artificial Intelligence?
We are surrounded by computers and machines every day. From the smartphone to the traffic lights and to the airport all we use is machines and computer-based systems. All our daily needs are taken care of by the computers. Even this blog is powered by a computer. And the more the computer is advanced, more is our productivity and economy.
As the Sci-fi movies revolve around the AI and machines taking over humanity, where the machines start to rule and humans fight for their survival. Well, it sure sounds intriguing but is it really so?
Well, what is Artificial intelligence or AI?
In computer science, artificial intelligence (AI), sometimes called machine intelligence, is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence displayed by humans and other animals. Computer science defines AI research as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of successfully achieving its goals. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem-solving".
Creator of AI John McCarthy, the American scientist defines AI as-

Modern machine capabilities generally classified as AI include successfully understanding human speech, competing at the highest level in strategic computer game systems, autonomously operating cars, and intelligent routing in content delivery networks and military simulations.

Isaac Asimov in the 1940s till date the robots have taken hold of our imagination. We dream of a robot capable of doing all the human works and which will never demand wages or leave or any concession. On our command, it'll do almost anything that is legal.
A huge part is in making the computer and AI legal and moral. It will be able to think on its own but it should keep the moral and ethical values intact. It should never break the law of the land nor should harm a living being.
The world as shown in Matrix or Terminator series is too far out now, and if we work on the right path it'll be as it was meant to be. To help and aid humanity. We will get the perfect harmony and balance between machines and humans.
